Aadhaar card becoming a must for all your needs: Here are 10 things you need to know

The Union government now wants to make Aadhaar card mandatory for filing income tax returns as well as applying for a PAN card. In fact, the unique identification 12-digit number in your Aadhaar card is now becoming the one point source for all your needs. It is not only limited to an identity or address proof, but it is also expanding its reach to help people in various activities.

As an identity and address proof, you can register your e-KYC and even get a new mobile connection using your Aadhaar card. This way you do not have to submit multiple documents while getting anything done, which not only saves time but also saves your money.
Here are 10 things to know how having an Aadhaar card can simplify your financial life and help in other things:
Filing Income Tax Returns
From July 1 onwards, individuals will need to furnish their Aadhaar number for filing income tax returns and those who do not have their Aadhaar card can file their ITR by Aadhaar enrollment number. You need to link your Aadhaar number with your PAN card before July as failing the same will not be considered as a valid ITR filing.
Applying for PAN
If you want to apply for a Permanent Account Number (PAN), you can submit your Aadhaar number as an identity proof or address proof. This amendment will get effective from July 1, 2017.
Getting pension through Employees' Provident Fund
Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has also made it compulsory for all pensioners and members to submit their Aadhaar card number. It is basically done for pensioners to avail hassle-free pension at the time of retirement.
Making payments through Aadhaar Enabled Payment System
Aadhaar Payment App is an initiative by the government for making digital payments through your multiple bank accounts. If you have an Aadhaar number, then you do not need to have any debit or credit card for making payments and also you do not even require any POS machine to swipe your card. This universal app, using USSD code, provides you to ease out your payments through any bank account even without using the internet facility.
Getting free LPG Connection
To get a free LPG connection under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, the government had last year made it necessary for poor women to have an Aaddhaar card with them. Now the government had made this unique identification number compulsory for every individual to get LPG subsidies.
Opening an eNPS account
You can open your pension account under NPS through eNPS by using your Aadhaar card. By visiting the official website of NPS and entering your Aadhaar number, you can create an eNPS account. Your Aadhaar number in such a case should be linked to a registered mobile number. Once your KYC is linked with the Aadhaar number, you can make cashless payments through the digital process.
Hassle-free passport services
The Ministry of External Affairs, which issues passports, has made it necessary to provide Aadhaar card for availing passport services. The issuance of a passport is fool proof and under the new system, now there is no scope for anti-national elements to obtain a passport. As per the guidelines, the first time passport applicants, who will provide their Aadhaar card, Voter ID card, PAN card and an affidavit of non-criminality in the prescribed format, will get faster passport services from Passport Seva Kendra.
Maintaining attendance through Aadhaar-enable biometric attendance system
Various state governments have also taken an initiative to make attendance mandatory for all the government employees through Aadhaar-enabled biometric attendance system (AEBAS). Sooner or later, other sectors will also use this feature to have a seamless process of maintaining various MIS.
Concessional rail ticket booking
Railways have also made plans to link Aadhaar with concessional ticket booking. They have also held a discussion with UIDAI for linking Aadhaar number with the booking of concessional tickets to prevent misuse of subsidy facility by unethical elements.
Subsidies from Public Distribution System
The government is likely to make Aadhaar mandatory for receiving subsidised foodgrains under the public distribution system (PDS). No subsidies will be given if one is not having an Aadhaar card.
