Union Minister for Commerce
Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday said that the town would be developed as a solar
city, the second town in the State after Vijayawada. She laid foundation stones
for various development projects with an expected outlay of Rs. 1.5 crore at
Matsyapuri village. Reiterating that the Centre was taking steps to regulate
the spiralling prices of essential commodities, Ms. Nirmala on Sunday said that
though the Union government was supplying pulses and onions to the States, the
response from the latter had been lukewarm.
On the second day of
her tour to West Godavari district, Ms. Sitharaman said that keeping in view of
sudden rise of prices of pulses, the Centre had imported different pulse
varieties weighting 7,000 metric tonnes and made them available for the States.
“Except for AP, no
other State government is evincing interest to get the pulses from the Centre.
Same is the case with onions, for which there are no takers even as the Centre
is ready to supply them to the States,” she said.
Holding the UPA
regime responsible for the price rise, Ms. Sitharaman said that the lopsided
priorities of the Congress-led UPA had resulted in the inflation.
“Now, the government
is taking all sorts of steps to regulate inflation and bring down the prices of
the commodities,” she said.
